Korea Zinc to issue about $1.9 billion in shares to U.S.-controlled joint venture as project lines up $4.7 billion in loans and $210 million CHIPS Act support
Korea Zinc will issue about $1.9 billion in shares to a U.S.-controlled holding joint venture, while the rest of the project financing will be backed by about $4.7 billion in loans from the U.S. government and financial institutions and $210 million in Commerce support through the CHIPS Act. A separate disclosure shows USA Rare Earth also secured access to up to $277 million in federal funding and up to $1.3 billion in senior secured loans, alongside an equity component. The funding push is aimed at building out critical minerals supply chains and strengthening U.S.-linked capacity for industrial metals such as zinc, according to Reuters.
