UK defence ministry launches Rolls-Royce Raynesway expansion in Derby, adding 1,000+ jobs for submarine reactor work
The UK Ministry of Defence has formally launched an expansion of Rolls-Royce’s Raynesway plant in Derby, which will double the site’s size and create more than 1,000 new jobs to support delivery of nuclear reactor plants for the Royal Navy’s new attack submarines. The project is fully funded under the government’s Defence Investment Plan, which includes an additional £15 billion announced this week and sets out £300 billion of defence investment over the next four years. Rolls-Royce Submarines employs 5,680 people, with more than 5,000 in Derby, and is set to supply all reactor plants for new attack submarines under the Australia-UK-US trilateral agreement.
