US payrolls rise by 178,000 in March, topping forecasts

The US labor market delivered a stronger-than-expected showing in March. The Labor Department said employers added 178,000 jobs, easily beating the 60,000 increase forecast by economists surveyed by LSEG. The unemployment rate edged down to 4.3%, slightly below the 4.4% estimate from the same survey.
