Delphi's Tommy Shaughnessy Blasts Circle for Not Freezing USDC Linked to $285M Drift Hack
Tommy Shaughnessy (@Shaughnessy119), cofounder of @Delphi_Digital, criticized @circle for not freezing USDC allegedly connected to the exploit that hit Drift, a Solana-based DeFi protocol.
Shaughnessy said the decision highlights what he sees as an inconsistency in how stablecoins are framed, arguing that a product marketed as decentralized is effectively centralized in practice. "Circle not freezing the USDC is hilarious because we know it’s centralized but they’re like nah, we’ll let the money freely flow to North Korea," he wrote.
The comments follow reports that Drift suffered an exploit that drained nearly $285 million in digital assets, according to Bloomberg.
