Mark Cuban said he sold most of his Bitcoin after concluding it did not behave like a crisis hedge during a period of weaker fiat confidence and rising geopolitical risk. He described BTC as "not the hedge I expected it to be," as Bitcoin traded around $77,663 in mid-May 2026, about 38% under its early-October 2025 peak of $126,000. Cuban also said he is shifting more capital toward Ethereum than Bitcoin.

Bitcoin hovered above $77,000 as more than $1.8 billion in BTC and ETH options were set to expire on May 22. Derivatives positioning showed longer-term bullish targets near $90,000 even as institutions added short-term downside hedges into month-end.

Wells Fargo increased its spot Ethereum ETF exposure in Q1 2026, lifting iShares Ethereum Trust holdings from about 672,600 shares in Q4 2025 to nearly 1.1 million, while also growing its Bitwise Ethereum ETF position to around 257,000 shares. Separately, JPMorgan Chase filed to launch a tokenized money market fund on Ethereum under the ticker JLTXX, designed to hold U.S. Treasurys and overnight repo backed by Treasurys and cash.

Former Ethereum Foundation developer Dankrad Feist said Thursday that the Ethereum community should create a new organization to support ETH, calling for at least $1 billion in funding. He argued the entity should be economically aligned with Ethereum, funded partly by staking revenue, and governed by a more accountable board as ETH’s market cap sits above $250 billion.

Bitmine Immersion Technologies holds 5,278,462 ETH, equal to 4.37% of Ethereum’s 120.7 million circulating supply, as its chairman Tom Lee highlights $2,100 as a key level for a May 2026 monthly close. As of May 21, 2026 (12:02 UTC), ETH traded at $2,113.86, down -0.65% on the week, with indicators including a green MACD histogram (+45.59) and a rising RSI (39.65) near the $2,100 area.

SpaceX filed an S-1 with the SEC for a Nasdaq IPO under ticker SPCX and disclosed 18,712 BTC worth about $1.45 billion, placing it among the world's top seven corporate Bitcoin holders. XRP traded in a tight $1.36–$1.37 band as Bollinger Bands compressed, while spot crypto ETFs saw -$1.1 billion in outflows and spot XRP ETFs reached $1.134 billion in total capital. Separately, Dogecoin co-creator Billy Markus replied to a $20 trillion market-cap claim on May 21, 2026, calling the idea less boring but implicitly unrealistic.

On Wednesday, spot bitcoin ETFs posted $70.47M in net outflows, marking a fourth straight session of redemptions led by BlackRock's IBIT at $61.45M. Ether ETFs also stayed negative, losing $28.14M for an eighth consecutive day, while XRP ETFs logged a small $1.45M inflow and Solana ETF flows were flat. Despite withdrawals, trading remained active with $1.36B traded in bitcoin ETFs and $350.41M in ether ETFs.

Binance Research's EVMbench benchmark published in April 2026 reports GPT-5.3-Codex succeeded 72.2% of the time when attacking vulnerable DeFi smart contracts, but reached only 36% when asked to detect issues without exploiting them. The report also puts the average cost at $1.22 per contract attempt, highlighting how cheaply AI can scale offensive testing.

Harvard University reduced its iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) holdings to 3.04 million shares valued at about $117 million as of March 31, a 43% cut from 5.35 million at the end of 2025. It also fully sold its BlackRock spot Ethereum ETF position worth roughly $86.8 million after holding it for one quarter. Over the same period, Abu Dhabi's Mubadala increased IBIT to 14.7 million shares, while the Abu Dhabi Investment Council kept 8.2 million shares.

Ethereum’s active RWA market share declined from 93.4% at the start of 2025 to 61.1% by the end of Q1 2026, even as it remains the largest chain by RWA market cap at about $18.7 billion. The shift coincides with more tokenized-asset activity spreading to other networks and with the Ethereum Foundation signaling plans to reduce its relative influence over time.
