US OCC Finalizes GENIUS Act Stablecoin Rules Effective January 18, 2027
The OCC finalized stablecoin rules under the GENIUS Act, effective January 18, 2027. The framework covers approved issuers, including banks and nonbanks, and requires full backing by US dollars or similar assets with annual audits. The OCC still bans direct interest payments to holders but will review certain commercial relationships case by case instead of presuming violations.
