Boyle Heights cold-storage fire threatens 70 daily semitruck shipments of frozen food to Southern California

A major fire at a large cold-storage warehouse in Los Angeles’ Boyle Heights is expected to spoil about 85 million tons of frozen food stored inside. The facility typically sends out about 70 semitrucks a day of frozen products to Southern California markets, including meat, dairy and processed foods, raising concerns about potential supply disruptions. Officials have not reported supermarket shortages so far, but an air quality alert remains in effect as firefighters use CH-47 helicopters and a firefighting robot to contain the blaze. California Gov. Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency for Los Angeles County.
