Major central banks face fresh rate decisions as energy costs push inflation higher
Energy costs are lifting inflation as major central banks prepare to announce their latest interest-rate decisions. The European Central Bank has raised rates to 2.5%, while the Federal Reserve has held rates at 3.5%–3.75% for five straight meetings. In the UK, inflation is 2.9% and is expected to rise, but markets broadly expect the Bank of England to keep its rate at 3.75%. Shipping constraints in the Strait of Hormuz linked to the Middle East conflict have helped lift Brent crude to around $105.

The U.S. Labor Department reported the Producer Price Index rose 5.4% year over year, slightly above the 5.3% consensus, while core PPI returned to positive growth on a monthly basis. After the release, expectations for another Federal Reserve rate hike strengthened, with the implied probability rising to 74%. Bitcoin fell about 2.7% to $77,300, Ethereum dropped about 2.1% to $2,450, and XRP slid about 3.9% to $1.37.

Florida attorney general sues Netflix, seeks billions in damages
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier filed a lawsuit against Netflix on Wednesday, accusing the company of illegally collecting billions of user behavioral data points and using autoplay to keep people watching longer. The complaint says Netflix later used that data to support its ad-supported service launched in 2022. Florida is seeking a jury trial, an order requiring Netflix to delete data it says was obtained deceptively, and billions of dollars in damages. Netflix said the lawsuit is baseless and that it will fight the case.

O’Charley’s, a 55-year-old U.S. casual dining chain, has reportedly permanently closed all of its remaining company-operated restaurants nationwide. Parent company Cannae Holdings holds a 65.4% equity interest, and its SEC filings show guest counts fell 23.8% year over year in Q2 2026 while comparable-store sales dropped 13.1%. Comparable-store sales were down 12.8% over the first six months of 2026.

Chemours, DuPont and Corteva agree to $455m North Carolina PFAS settlement
Chemours, DuPont and Corteva reached a $455m settlement with North Carolina and 11 local entities over claims that PFAS from Chemours’ Fayetteville Works plant contaminated drinking water. The payments will be made over 15 years, and Chemours expects to pay about $50m over the next 12 months. Under a 2021 agreement among the companies, Chemours will cover 50% of the settlement cost while DuPont and Corteva will split the remainder.
