U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs swung to net outflows on Thursday, logging $225.18 million in withdrawals and ending a seven-session stretch of inflows. Spot ether ETFs moved the other way, taking in $26.32 million as they marked the second anniversary of their market debut.
BlackRock's IBIT was the main driver of the bitcoin reversal, shedding $202.48 million—about 90% of the day's category outflow. Bitwise's BITB posted $7.03 million in redemptions, Fidelity's FBTC lost $5.64 million, Franklin Templeton's EZBC fell $5.61 million, and ARK 21Shares' ARKB declined by $4.30 million. Morgan Stanley's MSBT was the lone gainer, adding $5.01 million.
Total trading value for bitcoin ETFs reached $1.63 billion. Combined net assets ended at $78.82 billion, down from $80.36 billion the prior day. The pullback followed a run that had brought in $999.38 million over seven trading days, underscoring how quickly institutional flows can turn.
Ether ETFs extended their winning streak to five sessions with $26.32 million of net inflows. Fidelity's FETH led with $14.93 million, BlackRock's ETHA added $8.49 million, and ETHB brought in $2.90 million. No ether fund reported outflows. Category trading value totaled $564.90 million, with net assets ending at $10.32 billion. Over the past five days, ether ETFs have attracted $211 million, according to Sosovalue.
The latest inflow landed exactly two years after nine U.S. spot ether ETFs began trading on July 23, 2024, creating a regulated way for investors to access the world's second-largest cryptocurrency.
Outside the two largest assets, flows were muted to negative. HYPE ETFs saw $1.02 million in outflows, entirely from Grayscale's HYPG. Trading value was $8.84 million, and net assets closed at $294.15 million. HYPE products have recorded just one inflow session over the last 11 trading days.
XRP and solana ETFs reported no net flows. XRP fund assets ended at $1.01 billion, while solana products closed at $885.84 million. Altcoin ETF activity has lacked momentum this week, keeping institutional demand largely concentrated in bitcoin and ether.
