Odaily Planet Daily reported that Solana on Sept. 18 lowered its target slot time to 250 milliseconds from 300 milliseconds, the network's third speed adjustment since August. Because the compute and data capacity allocated per slot is reduced proportionally, the change does not increase overall throughput.
The move represents the third stage of the four-phase SIMD0525 plan. Solana's slot time has been reduced from 400 milliseconds at genesis to 350 milliseconds, then 300 milliseconds, and now 250 milliseconds. The final step—a reduction to 200 milliseconds—has not yet been scheduled for mainnet and will depend on validators maintaining a stable skip rate.
