ChainThink reported on Sept. 11 that Blockstream has declined to pay a ransom tied to the roughly 4,000 BTC taken from its Liquid Network protocol, citing an official post on X. Blockstream said taking custody of assets without authorization and refusing to return them is theft, not responsible disclosure or "white hat" conduct. The company said that if the funds are not returned, it will work with law enforcement, exchanges, service providers and forensic specialists to pursue recovery and identify those responsible through all available legal channels. Blockstream added that Bitcoin's on-chain transparency means relevant evidence will remain traceable. Blockstream is the lead developer and technology provider for the Liquid Network. On Sept. 7, Liquid Network said a white hat hacker had withdrawn about 4,000 BTC, prompting the sidechain to halt operations.
