Crypto derivatives exchange BitMEX, founded by Arthur Hayes, said it will permanently wind down operations on Sept. 23 at 04:00 UTC after completing a strategic review. The platform has stopped accepting new user registrations and is urging existing clients to close open positions and withdraw funds before the deadline. At its peak, BitMEX handled $16 billion in daily trading volume and more than $1 trillion annually. Hayes and his co-founders stepped down in 2020 after facing U.S. criminal charges.
