Bitcoin jumps from $62,000 toward $80,000 as short squeeze ignites rally despite sliding futures open interest
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Bitcoin's sharp rally is framed as a short-squeeze event, with large-scale short liquidations driving upside while BTC-denominated futures open interest falls to a five-month low. Perpetual funding below 10% suggests leverage is not excessively crowded, and margin-futures OI at historic lows implies reduced systemic unwind risk. The mix of lower derivatives participation and higher cash collateral points to a healthier leverage backdrop in the near term.

ChainThink said market data as of Aug. 25 shows Bitcoin has surged from around $62,000 to nearly $80,000, posting its second-largest weekly gain in almost five years.
Even as prices climbed, open interest in Bitcoin-denominated futures kept falling, dropping to about 587,600 BTC, a five-month low. Glassnode data indicates the move was largely powered by short covering and liquidations, with billions of dollars in short positions wiped out in a classic short squeeze.
Perpetual swap funding remains restrained, with the annualized rate still below 10%, suggesting leverage is not excessively crowded. Open interest in crypto margin futures also fell to a record low of roughly 52,000 BTC, representing just 11% of total market positioning.
A larger share of cash collateral is seen as reducing the reflexive risk of "collateral erosion—liquidations—further price declines" during sell-offs. With lighter derivatives participation and a healthier leverage mix, the rally may prove more durable.
