Algorand (ALGO) Jumps 22% After Google Quantum Computing Paper Spotlights Post-Quantum Security
The crypto market steadied over the past 24 hours, with major tokens posting modest gains. Algorand (ALGO) outperformed, rallying 22% on the day. Traders are split on what comes next, with some calling for additional short-term upside and others warning that a pullback may be near.
On April 1, ALGO climbed above $0.10 for the first time since February, pushing its market capitalization close to the psychologically important $1 billion level. CoinMarketCap data shows ALGO among the most-trending cryptocurrencies over the past day, a move widely linked to Google's latest quantum computing research.
Google's quantum computing team recently released a white paper arguing that future quantum machines could break the cryptography used by Bitcoin and other networks more easily than previously expected. The paper highlights Algorand as "an example of real-world deployment of PQC on an otherwise quantum-vulnerable blockchain," and credits the project for using post-quantum Falcon digital signatures for smart transactions and state proofs.
Algorand Foundation said that, outside of Bitcoin and Ethereum, no blockchain received more attention in the report than Algorand. "The alarm has been sounded. Algorand has been answering it for years," the team wrote on X.
The rally also drew fresh technical calls. X user Aman said ALGO bounced off support after a falling-wedge breakout, signaling a bullish reversal. Another analyst, Clifton Fx, said ALGO is "trying to break the descending channel" on the daily chart; a breakout backed by a strong momentum candle could open the door to a move toward nearly $0.20.
Even after the surge, ALGO remains far below its all-time high of $3.23 set in summer 2019. Momentum indicators are also flashing caution: the Relative Strength Index (RSI) has climbed above 80, typically associated with overbought conditions and an increased risk of a near-term correction. RSI readings below 30 are often viewed as potential buying zones.
