Launched in January 2020, Moonbeam is an  Ethereum-compatible smart contract protocol that helps developers in creating interoperable projects. This crypto token is based on the Polkadot blockchain network which enables building their blockchains known as Parachains that are connected to Polkadot’s main relay chain. 

The main goal of the Moonbeam project is that its operation on the Polkadot blockchain will help users to connect and interact with the Ethereum blockchain. Moonbeam also helps developers to carry Decentralized Apps (DApps) between both the Polkadot and Ethereum Blockchain networks without having an obstacle or barrier. 

However, the common issues witnessed in a such switch include having to redeploy infrastructure and rewrite code within the networks. But with the Moonbeam crypto token, developers won’t have such issues because the network is very interoperable. Moonbeam also makes the use of Ethereum developer tools very easy during the building and redeploying of Solidity projects.

Moonbeam Features and Updates

The Moonbeam Network has two crypto tokens called Glimmer and Moonriver. Glimmer token is its primary utility token based on the Polkadot network while Moonriver is the utility token for its Moonriver deployment built on the Kusama network. 

A percentage of the Glimmer token was reserved after its launch to make sure that the Moonbeam Network keeps a Parachain slot on the Polkadot blockchain network. Also, some portions were stored for Moonbeam community funding. 

Moonbeam Team

The Moonbeam crypto token was discovered by Derek Yoo, the chief executive officer of PureStake. PureStake is a platform that offers protected and reliable public blockchain infrastructure to Blockchain application builders, enterprises, developers, and projects. 

Another member of the team is Stefan Mehlhorn, who’s an expert in early-stage company management and operation and serves as the chief operations officer (COO) of Moonbeam and PureStake. Stefan Mehlhorn had previously worked with top companies like Permessa, Thinking Phone Network, LoopPay, Samsung Pay, Candibell Inc., and others. 

Nate Hamilton and Katie Butler both from PureStake are in charge of the business development and marketing teams of the Moonbeam Network respectively.
