Electric cars displaced $20B in oil as US falls behind in EV adoption
Electric vehicle fleets in oil-importing countries displaced about 200 million barrels of crude oil between March and August, worth roughly $20 billion, according to an analysis by energy think tank Ember. China accounted for the largest share, avoiding an estimated $14 billion in crude oil consumption, while EU countries displaced another $3.1 billion, led by Germany and France. The study covers 56 countries that represent more than 90% of global electric car sales. It also found that the US trails 15 countries in the share of new vehicles sold that are fully electric.
