ENSv2 to launch on Ethereum; Namechain L2 shelved after gas limit hit 60M in 2025

On February 7, 2026, ENS said ENSv2 will run exclusively on Ethereum and it will halt its Namechain Layer 2. The team cited Layer 1 scaling gains, noting the gas limit rose from 30 million to 60 million in 2025, and pledged features such as single step registration and multi chain stablecoin payments.
