IOST is its own blockchain network and ecosystem, complete with its own nodes, wallets, and consensus process. IOST is dedicated to becoming "ultra-fast" using a combination of unique technologies such as Proof of Believability (POB) and Efficient Distributed Sharding (EDS)—more on these later.

IOST Features and Updates

An IOST mainnet address is the Ethereum equivalent of a wallet address. IOST addresses, on the other hand, are human-readable and are configured by the end user. Since the mainnet's introduction in 2019, the IOST network has had very little downtime. The proof-of-believability consensus protocol employs an intra-shard believable-first strategy. PoB resolves the scalability conundrum once and for all, aiming to assure network security, scalability, and decentralization. IOST strives to provide rapid transactions as well as human-friendly user account names. IOST has grown to host half a million worldwide users, over 400 nodes in 20 countries, and world-class partnerships. The IOST network can support up to 8,000 transactions per second.

IOST is the platform's native token. In the IOS system, IOST acts as the medium of exchange for all transactions, payments for services and items provided by merchants or other community members, and commission fees. The commission charge is intended to incentivize validators while also preventing malevolent users from harming the community's interests through excessive smart contract implementation. Anyone can stake, trade, and use IOST to participate in the IOST ecosystem of services, DApps, and marketplaces. IOS also intends to play an important role in determining a user's credibility score. The Genesis Block is where all IOS tokens are created. Furthermore, as an IOS ecosystem member, each user can obtain IOS tokens by validating transactions and donating resources.
